How we prepare your herbal scalp rinse

Which herbs go into the rinse, and how we adjust the blend for your scalp.

We simmer herbs in water each morning, then use the warm liquid to rinse your scalp. Chinese apothecaries have prepared herbs this way for centuries.

Tou Dao Tang means the first, most potent pour of an herbal decoction.

The herbs in our blend

He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) has a long history in Chinese hair care, where it is traditionally used for shine and rich color.

Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis) is a traditional blood tonic.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is traditionally used as a warming herb.

Ginseng (Panax ginseng) is a traditional tonic.

Codonopsis and Poria (Codonopsis pilosula and Poria cocos) are traditionally used as calming herbs.

Honey Locust and Bai Xian Pi (Gleditsia sinensis and Cortex dictamni) are traditionally used to cleanse the scalp and soothe discomfort.

These are traditional uses, not medical claims.

Your blend

We adjust the blend after examining your scalp. Before we begin, tell us about any sensitivities or recent hair treatments. You'll notice the herbs' aroma when the rinse begins.
